Went to see "Normal," a solo exhibit at Project Gallery in Chinatown in DT LA tonight.
I liked what the artist, Wyatt Mills had to say when he explained his concept of normalcy. He gave a brief talk and remarked that we put on facades to cover up our feelings of doubt and insecurity in order to appear normal, but that when we talk about doubt and fear, we always tell each other those are normal feelings or "that's normal." He also acknowledged that it is the self doubt and bumps along the road that get us to where we are going. It's a big part of any process and definitely a good metaphor for painting.
His work had a psychological feel to his representation of figures. It reminded me of Francis Bacon's portraits and figures.
